CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — For the first time since 2018, Boston College football has returned to the Associated Press Top 25, landing at No. 24 after an impressive start to the 2024 season. Under the leadership of first-year head coach Bill O’Brien, the Eagles have won their first two games, including a statement road victory over then-No. 10 Florida State, followed by a dominant 56-0 shutout of Duquesne in their home opener.
This marks the first time Boston College has been ranked since November 12, 2018, when they reached No. 20. The early-season ranking is also the program’s earliest Top 25 appearance since 2005, when the Eagles were ranked No. 22 in the preseason AP and Coaches Polls.
The Eagles have impressed on both sides of the ball. Nationally, Boston College ranks seventh in rushing defense, allowing just 40.5 yards per game, and ninth in rushing offense, averaging 282.5 yards per game. The Eagles are also 10th in scoring defense, giving up just 6.5 points per game, and 23rd in scoring offense with an average of 42 points per game. They lead the country in team passing efficiency with a remarkable rating of 245.83.
Junior quarterback Thomas Castellanos has been pivotal to BC’s early success, throwing for 340 yards and six touchdowns while completing 73.1% of his passes—ranking sixth in the nation in passing touchdowns.
The Eagles will look to continue their strong start as they hit the road to face Missouri on Saturday, Sept. 14 for a 12:45 p.m. ET kickoff on SEC Network. They’ll then return home for the annual Red Bandanna Game against Michigan State on September 21, a game that holds deep meaning for the BC community.
